LA LLORONA, chosen to represent Guatemala at the 2021 Goya® Awards
15 October, 2020
LA LLORONA, by Jayro Bustamante, has been chosen by the Guatemalan Academy to represent the country in the running for the Best Ibero-American Film Award at the 35º edition of the Goya® Awards.
Having made his name as a director who crafts works of great sensitivity and visual richness, Silver Bear-winning director Jayro Bustamante (Ixcanul, Tremors) is back with this tale of horror and fantasy, ripe with suspense, and an urgent metaphor of Guatemalan recent history and its unhealed political wounds.
The film has also been pre-selected to represent Guatemala at the 2021 Oscars® and has participated in prestigious and widely-known festivals, including TIFF, San Sebastián, Sundance, Tokyo, BFI or Venice’s Giornate Degli Autori.
